DeLaney's Vineyard

Nevada, Missouri

Vineyard

DeLaney’s Vineyard was established in 2005 when the vineyard was started in the spring by planting “sticks” with various people helping at the Ali location.  Buried treasure was found.

The first year was devoted to plowing, planting, and organizing the area; simply, just allowing the plants to grow with the best care possible.  A variety of plants was planted such as Niagara, Noir, Concord, Villard Noir, Pinot Gris and experimental varieties.

The next year saw the purchase of an additional area of land bringing in an encompassing area of about 22-25 acres.  The first few months of this year was devoted to clearing and preparing the new land.  Again a variety of grapes was planted with the most being Concords.  Others included Elvira, Buffalo, Trimetts, Pinot Gris, Baco (red), Fredonia, Niagara, Zinfandel (white), Seyval (white), Cynthia (Norton which are native to Missouri), St. Vincent (red) and others.  We were trying to see which variety was more successful and tasty.

St. Vincent for example is a French hybrid that has the capability of making a delicious full bodied semi-dry wine.  In addition, when pressing the grapes, they make a delightful blush wine.

Replacement grapes were added the third year with lots of sweat.

Through out the entire time a variety of dwarf fruit trees, pecan trees, paw trees have been added.  Also, the third year has seen the addition of some silver spruce trees planted to be used at Christmas time.
